Gabrielle Union is set to release a new memoir.
Dey Street Books, an imprint of the William Morrow Group at HarperCollins, will publish Union’s You Got Anything Stronger? in September.
Union previously penned the 2017 New York Times best-selling essay collection We’re Going to Need More Wine, in which she sparked powerful conversations by examining topics such as power, color, gender, feminism, and fame through her stories. Now, in her upcoming new collection, Union continues to push the conversations by candidly detailing personal stories such as opening up about her surrogacy journey, navigating married life, and reflecting on the entertainment community’s response to the Black Lives Matter protests.
“I went into writing this second book with the intention of leaving nothing on the table,” Union said in a statement. “So much has happened since We’re Going to Need More Wine, a lot more healing, more therapy, more perspective, and more freedom to be me. When you feel free enough to share in a real way, that’s where the true transformation and evolution happens, that’s where you build community and why I feel empowered to share these stories now. I hope readers are able to see and understand me and through these stories, see and understand parts of themselves.”
Dey Street vp and editorial director Carrie Thornton negotiated the deal.
“Editing Gabrielle Union is a privilege, as with each book she grows her skills as a writer, a cultural observer and as a commentator on what it means to be a modern woman. You Got Anything Stronger? is a forceful statement and step forward for her as a writer. It is also a book that tugs at the heart, feels relatable, and reminds you that balancing marriage, motherhood, career, friendships, and personal identity is a struggle for any woman. Gabrielle Union keeps it real in every way—you see her for exactly who she is in her books and admire her for it,” said Thornton.
You Got Anything Stronger? will release on Sept. 14.
