Though Lana Condor made her film debut in X-Men: Apocalypse, it wasn’t until To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before that she started grabbing worldwide attention with that role. Netflix’s teen rom-com put her front and center in the spotlight, where she has stayed until the third film in the series, To All the Boys: Always and Forever, premiered last month.

Condor’s roles aren’t just in front of the camera these days. She’s also a global brand ambassador for Neutrogena, which is a perfect fit since the brand was her introduction to skincare. “I was a dancer for much of my childhood and we’d wear a lot of stage makeup and so my mom introduced skincare to me with the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes, because she said to us take off your makeup after the day,” Condor says. “It started with the wipes — I had the minis in all my purses, I have wipes in every bathroom. I’m a huge advocate for them. I give them to my friends. In every set kit I have them.”

Condor is dedicated to using her platform carefully, raising awareness for causes close to her heart. Adopted by American parents, she has traveled to her native Vietnam with Michelle Obama and created a scholarship fund with The Asia Foundation for girls from Cần Thơ, the town where she was born. That’s why taking on the role as a Neutrogena ambassador was something that required careful consideration. “The first conversation I had with the brand was all about creating a platform for me to be able to use my voice and to talk about things that were important to me,” Condor says. “The fact that that was the first conversation that I had with the brand was really meaningful because there are beauty brands out there that don’t champion and support creating a safe space to use your voice. I think now more than ever diversity and inclusion, particularly in a beauty brand where it’s about the face, that is the most important because you want to see faces that are reflective to how the actual world looks, just like how I champion diversity in film and television. I feel the same way when it comes to beauty and beauty brands and campaigns. I love these products and I believe in the products — otherwise I wouldn’t be here — but more than the products, I think that is an amazing reason to partner with Neutrogena.”

When it comes to her beauty and skincare routine, Condor likes to keep it simple. “During COVID and quarantine, I have a little bit more time to do self-care and take care of my skin,” she says. “Number one, I drink a lot of water because I do believe in beauty from within and self-care. Having a healthy mind is really important and mediating and making sure I’m in a safe place in my head and then at night I’ll take off the day with my wipes because I don’t really wear much makeup these days. If anything, I’ll just use a little of the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Concealer Stick because I think that’s a good go-to. Then as soon as I get out of the shower, I use the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Fragrance-free Hydrating Body Gel Cream all over my body. It really locks in the moisture. And then I use a serum on my face and a little bit of eye cream under my eyes. I try to keep it succinct, so I love using products that actually work and make it easy for me.”

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face Mist SPF 55

A crucial step in Condor’s skincare regimen is sunscreen. “I’m a huge advocate for wearing sunscreen because when my mom was younger, she would tan and not take care of her skin and use sunscreen, and now she is having to face the consequences of not protecting her skin from the sun, which is really hard to watch her go through,” Condor says. “I very much want to protect other people from having to go through that experience so I’m very big into wearing your sunscreen. I’m trying to avoid touching my face throughout the day as much as and so the Ultra Sheer Face Mist SPF 55 is a game changer because you’re supposed to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day, but obviously you don’t want to touch your face all day long. This mist disperses well — it’s not like a weird squirt. And it’s sheer and it doesn’t have a white cast, which I think is important. I have also been really loving the Bright Boost Illuminating Serum with turmeric. I’m new to using turmeric. I’ve only been using turmeric for maybe half a year, but it’s a game changer man, if you have dark circles, if you have any dullness, this is really amazing. It’s anti-inflammatory so it’s helping heal my skin a lot. When you say a product has illuminating properties, sometimes that can be a little scary [because] you might think there’s little flecks of shimmer in it and then it will show up on your face, but this serum sinks really beautifully into your skin. Personally, I like it to look natural; I like it to look like just skin without little diamonds on it.”

Condor has also taken the opportunity to educate herself more on skincare and take a deep dive into the industry, introducing herself to new products and ingredients, such as sheet masks and hyaluronic acid. “I heard about hyaluronic acid in the vortex of all skincare, but I didn’t know why it was so, so important and what properties it has and why it really does change your skin,” she says. “Hyaluronic acid is something that I learned recently really works for me.”

Now that she has her role with Neutrogena down, where will she next be on screen? HBO Max’s Sci-Fi rom-com Moonshot is in the works. “This is definitely one of my favorite projects that I’m doing; I’m really psyched about it,” Condor says. “It’s based in space, which I think is really cool, because I love space and wish I could go to space, so the next best thing is just pretending.” Like everything else Condor does, it sounds like it will be out of this world.
